Can I choose my own music for an event?

Yes, but if it is not in my repertoire I need plenty of warning and some tunes are outside the range of the bagpipe. I can usually find suitable tunes from my repertoire.

How much does it cost?

This depends on time, place and duration of the event, popular times such as Burns Night and New Year are a tad more expensive. I can give a detailed quote if required.

Do you only perform within a certain area?

No, I will play virtually anywhere in the UK or mainland Europe for private parties, public events, stage and film performances.

Do you write tunes for special events?

Yes, I have written tunes to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries and special events. I can also prepare a presentation copy in the form of an illuminated manuscript.

How much notice do you require?

Depends on the event, I have had as much as six months notice for a funeral but that was exceptional, usually it is a couple of days. Weddings at popular times of the year and particularly at weekends are booked six to nine months ahead. Weekday weddings can usually be accommodated with six weeks notice. Burns Suppers and New Year celebrations are usually booked a full year ahead, although dates other than 25th January for Burns Suppers can be booked much later.

Do you perform for Asian functions?

Yes, certainly. I have played at many Asian weddings and funerals and complied with all relevant customs such as head covering and removal of shoes. Such events are usually more expensive because of the time scale involved, six to ten hours attendance is not unusual.

Do you give advice on planning an event?

Yes, basic advice is freely given, however if you require detailed assistance with planning an event I can provide that service for an agreed fee. I can also act as Master of Ceremonies if required for weddings, civic banquets and Burns Suppers
